WeCarbon's China Partner Ms. Mia Zheng has been invited by the Shanghai Institute of State-owned Capital Operations to lecture on the "Training Programme on Building ESG Committees in Chinese Enterprises".

Ms. Zheng is an expert in sustainable development, ESG and impact investing with more than ten years of cross-industry experience. A graduate of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) and Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), she is a member of the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN) expert group, a registered ESG expert of CIECC Overseas Consulting, an ESG lecturer at the Shanghai Institute of State-owned Capital Operations, and a specially appointed ESG expert for a vice-ministerial-level NGO and several private equity funds. She is currently a Council Member of the CKGSB National Alumni Council and Executive Secretary-General of the CKGSB Shanghai Alumni Association. Ms. Zheng has supported a number of government standard-setting projects, including developing an impact investment assessment framework and a five-year climate change strategic investment plan for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's district, and has contributed to sustainability strategies for New York City and several multinational groups.

As China sets out and implements its sustainability goals, ESG, an investment philosophy and corporate evaluation standard that looks at companies' environmental, social and governance performance rather than their financial performance, is drawing growing attention from Chinese companies. SASAC of the State Council and local SASACs have issued policies and mechanisms, set up ESG evaluation standards and indicator systems, and are working to develop a group of companies with excellent ESG management.

Against this backdrop, the Shanghai SASAC Training Center is holding the "Training Programme on Building ESG Committees in Chinese Enterprises". Drawing on advanced international experience and the distinctive features and development needs of the Chinese market, and combining policy pathways with business practice, the programme helps companies build ESG systems and develop sustainably. Its faculty of prominent figures includes Mr. Huang Qunhui, Director of the Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Mr. Zhang Zhengwei, Special Adviser to the Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and Director of its Beijing Office; Mr. Jianzhong Lu, Board Member of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI); and Ms. Mia Zheng, Partner (China) at WeCarbon.

On the programme, Ms. Zheng will give participants an in-depth analysis of how to embed ESG at the core of corporate strategic planning, and share her practical experience and thinking on sustainable development and organisation building. WeCarbon will also continue to provide training and coaching, standards advisory and corporate services to help the Shanghai SASAC ESG working group for state-controlled listed companies respond to the requirements of national development strategy. Drawing on its strengths as a think tank partner, WeCarbon will keep helping Shanghai's state-controlled listed companies raise the level of their ESG systems, supporting state-owned enterprises in their green, low-carbon and sustainable transition.
