WeCarbon Delivers Training for Bank of China on EU Carbon Border Adjustment Rules and Banking Services

On 10 May, WeCarbon Founder Mr. Eric Ma was invited by Bank of China to teach a course on “The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism: Rules and Banking Financial Service Measures”.

On 10 May, Bank of China Shanghai Headquarters and the Shanghai Advanced Training Institute held a “Training Programme on Yangtze River Delta Free Trade Zone Policies, Products and Good-Practice Cases” for the bank's senior managers and the heads of its free trade zone branches. WeCarbon Founder Mr. Eric Ma was invited as an expert lecturer to deliver a session on “The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism: Rules and Banking Financial Service Measures”.

In the session, Mr. Ma looked at CBAM from four angles: its rules and impact, the current situation and challenges facing Chinese companies, good-practice cases, and banking and financial service measures. He gave an in-depth analysis of the issues Bank of China and its free trade zone units care about, namely the challenges CBAM poses for banking services and the potential opportunities for developing new financial products, and drew on good-practice cases to present solutions for companies in the CBAM implementation phase. After the session, Mr. Ma held in-depth discussions with participants, and the response was enthusiastic.

Mr. Ma pointed out that CBAM exposes companies to foreign trade compliance risks, raising export costs, eroding profitability and market competitiveness, and adding pressure on their energy transition and management. At the same time, green policies of this kind also give companies a second opportunity to upgrade and transform, and companies need to face them squarely and take effective action.

As CBAM comes into force, WeCarbon, an early mover in sustainability, combines forward-looking policy insight with solid technical experience to serve companies across industries, and has launched the WeGreenPass one-stop automated reporting platform. WeGreenPass provides professional carbon accounting and reporting support and brings in third-party bodies for independent assessment, helping companies get through the reporting period smoothly. We will continue to follow CBAM developments and are ready to work with companies to meet the challenges of the carbon border tax, uncover potential opportunities and build a green future together.
