WeCarbon Founder Visits the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Asian Development Bank and Tsinghua University

WeCarbon Founder Ms. Remoca Shi visited the Center for Environmental Education and Communications of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Asian Development Bank's PRC Resident Mission and the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University.

Ms. Remoca Shi, Founder of WeCarbon and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Climate Week Youth Council, recently travelled to Beijing to visit the Center for Environmental Education and Communications (CEEC) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Asian Development Bank's PRC Resident Mission and the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development (ICCSD) at Tsinghua University. The meetings covered climate and the green economy in depth and discussed follow-up project cooperation.

At the meeting with the CEEC on 8 July, Zhu Zhenxu, Party Committee Member and Director of the Education Office of the CEEC, spoke highly of the efforts made and results achieved in telling the green stories of young people in China, and offered guidance on the plans for future activities. Climate technology innovation is an important driver of companies' low-carbon and zero-carbon transition, and the CEEC plays an important role in publicising exemplary low-carbon and zero-carbon transition cases and promoting them to the public. Looking ahead, Director Zhu suggested that alongside case studies in this field, the team should work closely with local governments to put climate technologies into practice.

On the same day, at the meeting with the Asian Development Bank, Dr. Aiming Zhou, Deputy Country Director of the ADB PRC Resident Mission, said that the ADB attaches great importance to climate change and the development of China's green economy and looks forward to deeper cooperation on these issues. This year, the ADB co-hosted the 2024 Climate & Sustainability Photography Awards, with WeCarbon and other organisations as supporting partners. Building on this, the ADB is willing to take a deep part in Shanghai Climate Week projects, discussing implementation details, overseeing delivery quality, and providing funding and expert support to keep projects on track.

Also on the same day, at the meeting with the ICCSD, Li Zheng, Dean of the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development at Tsinghua University, noted that Shanghai Climate Week is in a growth phase and urgently needs to create flagship events. It could draw on Tsinghua University's core strengths in “strategy, policy and action”, strengthen exchange and cooperation with other international brands, and actively seek endorsements from well-known figures, including from Tsinghua University, to raise the event's reputation and credibility and build an international brand with global influence.

Going forward, WeCarbon will help all parties take their cooperation further and keep in close communication on climate change activities, helping build a green, low-carbon and sustainable industrial ecosystem and supporting China's sustainability goals.
