WeCarbon Joins the 2024 Youth Sustainable Development Innovation Debate (Overseas) × UCL China Forum

Mr. Eric Ma, Founder and CTO of WeCarbon and Special Adviser on Carbon Neutrality to the World Economic Forum, attended the 2024 Youth Sustainable Development Innovation Debate (Overseas) × UCL China Forum.

Ms. Remoca Shi, Founder and Executive Director of WeCarbon, and Mr. Eric Ma, Founder and CTO of WeCarbon and Special Adviser on Carbon Neutrality to the World Economic Forum, were recently invited to the 2024 Youth Sustainable Development Innovation Debate (Overseas) × UCL China Forum at the Xiaoshan International Talent Club.

The event was held under the guidance of the Chinese National Committee for UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, the Zhejiang Qiantang River Basin Center, Friends of Nature, the Zhejiang University–Zhejiang Mobile Joint Lab for Data Intelligence and Urban Future, and the Hunan Federation of Ecological Protection Volunteer Services. It was co-hosted by the Zhejiang Federation of Popular Science, the Zhejiang Universities' Association for Science and Technology Alliance and Shanghai Climate Week, and organised by the UCL Chinese Students and Scholars Association, the Executive Committee of the Youth Sustainable Development Innovation Debate, the Zhejiang Green Technology and Culture Promotion Association and the Xiaoshan International Talent Club. Leaders from a number of companies and organisations took part.

The event drew representative experts and scholars from fields across China, including from Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, hundreds of young talents from China and abroad, and senior professionals from many sectors. Using technology and innovation exchange as a springboard, the event focused on Sustainable Development Goal 9, “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure”, Goal 12, “Responsible Consumption and Production”, and Goal 13, “Climate Action”. Through youth innovation debates, keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, it promoted exchange with and recruitment of overseas talent, bringing together the ideas and energy of young people worldwide to protect our shared home and common future.

At the forum on 25 July, Mr. Ma shared his insights on how companies can achieve their environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals. He noted that there are only a few key points for which companies will actually pay for ESG. As a technology company, WeCarbon can use AI and other technology tools to help companies meet their needs as efficiently as possible, help them make their voices heard at major events, and use the power of technology to build an ecological future together. Mr. Ma stressed that with the power of technology, companies can not only improve their own operational efficiency but also play an active role in building an ecological future.

The event gave young people from around the world a platform to show their ideas and energy. Through keynote talks, lightning talks and open discussion, participants explored frontier topics in green technology and shared their insights and experience. Participants came away with new knowledge, and the event laid a good foundation for future cooperation and innovation. Through shared effort and the exchange of ideas, the results of these discussions can be turned into concrete action, contributing more to the sustainable development of our cities and society.

WeCarbon looks forward to continuing on the path of sustainable development together with all participants, creating a greener, lower-carbon future together.
