On 31 March 2026, the fourth 2026 "Career Lift-off" major and industry navigation session of Tongji University's Freshman College was held in the lecture hall of the Rui'an Building. WeCarbon's China Partner Ms. Mia Zheng was invited to take part and gave a talk on emerging trends and career paths in ESG and sustainability.

The session focused on opportunities in the green and low-carbon sector. Speakers from WeCarbon, SKSHU Paint, China Overseas Grand Oceans Group and other organisations discussed where the green and low-carbon industry is heading and what talent it needs, helping new students overcome information gaps, understand the sector better, clarify their career goals and plan their development.

In her talk, "Decoding the Future: Frontiers of ESG and Sustainability and What They Mean for Your Career", Ms. Zheng started from three drivers, global consensus, policy direction and market demand, to explain why ESG matters. She reviewed the current state, emerging practices and future trends of ESG in China and worldwide and, drawing on her industry experience, set out the knowledge and skills that ESG professionals need. Her practical advice to Tongji students: build interdisciplinary knowledge, seek out hands-on internships, and keep developing both professional skills and broader competencies.

During the roundtable, Ms. Zheng discussed trends in the green and low-carbon industry, career choices and skills development with students and faculty, answering their questions in a lively exchange.
