Founded in 1946, Columbia SIPA is a renowned school of public policy and international affairs. The SIPA Greater China Initiative is the school's official student organisation representing China and has long promoted cultural and academic exchange between China and the rest of the world. The programme has run for many years and has hosted more than 120 young students of international affairs and public administration from over 20 countries, with visits covering eight major Chinese cities.
This year's delegation was made up of 20 graduate students and young scholars from 15 countries, all master's and doctoral students at SIPA specialising in climate, energy and environmental policy, international finance and economics, international security and diplomacy, and sustainability management, many with substantial professional experience. Over the 13-day trip, the delegation visited government bodies such as the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, international organisations such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and innovative companies such as the Xiaomi EV factory and Pop Mart. The delegation also conducted research on China–US people-to-people exchange, trade dialogue and urban governance, visited the Three Gorges Reservoir Area in Chongqing to learn about rural revitalisation, and held a China–US youth dialogue with students of Tsinghua University's Schwarzman College, engaging in policy discussions and practical exchanges from many angles.
