On 30 May 2024, the “Building Liveable, Competitive and Sustainable Cities” symposium and the Hong Kong Green and Sustainable Contribution Awards 2024 ceremony, hosted by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), were held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. In recognition of its work to develop the ESG ecosystem and its good practice in environmental, social and governance matters, WeCarbon received the “ESG Connect Pioneer Star (Environmental – Mainland)”.
Building inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities is one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The event was attended by more than 1,000 senior executives from government departments, regulators, chambers of commerce, social enterprises, Chinese and international financial and business institutions, academic institutions and environmental groups. Through the “ESG Connect” programme, HKQAA brings together organisations of different types to build an ESG ecosystem, encouraging those with ESG experience to share it with the industry and supporting the continued development of ESG.
The event focused on the sustainability needs of future cities in a changing landscape and explored forward-looking sustainability strategies in liveable housing, innovative construction, green and low-carbon development, and building inclusive communities. Officials from the HKSAR Government Development Bureau, HKQAA, the Construction Market Regulation Division of the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province, the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation (Intellectual Property Administration) and the Shenzhen Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau attended and spoke at the event.
HKQAA is a conformity assessment body and standard setter in the Greater Bay Area. It has developed a series of conformity assessment services in green and sustainable finance, carbon neutrality, climate risk management and ESG, and takes an active part in setting international, national and industry standards, working to raise the level of sustainability across industries.
The award is strong recognition of WeCarbon's work.
